Jessie J - Alive - The Hydro, Glasgow

Following my recent review of Jessie's new album, I thought it was only appropriate that I went to her gig! Having only bought the tickets the day before, I had pretty good seats:

Oh, and sorry for the really bad quality pictures, they were taken on my iPhone because I forgot my proper camera! Major blogging fail :(

Anyway, onto the actual gig! Lawson opened the night and smashed it. I've previously seen them support The Wanted twice before and they keep getting better and better. The Hydro also provides incredible acoustics so we could hear every single note with crystal clear clarity. My favourite track that they played was their new single Juliet. It's currently sitting at number three in the official chart so if you want to check it out click here.

Then Jessie came on and blew everyone away. Her performance couldn't be described as anything other than flawless. She has such amazing control over her vocal cords, you'd have a hard neck to say she can't sing.

She played for around an hour and a half so all her hits were packed in. Sexy Lady and It's My Party were particular favourites of mine but Wild was incredible as well.

So if you've got tickets to see Jessie at an arena near you, you're in for a treat! And if you've not, call up the box office like I did or check online and see what they've got - you won't regret it!

Until next time,

Sleek Au Naturel Palette Review

Well here goes, my first beauty review!

I had been eying up this palette for a while before I finally bit the bullet and bought it - and I don't know what took me so long! I have fallen completely in love with it. To start with the packaging is gorgeous, I had far too much fun photographing it.

It feels and looks so high end but at the glorious price of £7.99! I know, I couldn't believe it either but you need to get yourself down to your nearest large Superdrug ASAP!

Now for the most important bit, the eye shadow itself! Being a redhead, ridiculously pale and blue-eyed, I tend to stick to neutral colours which normally leaves me quite limited when buying new shades. However, I wasn't disappointed when I spotted this palette.

My absolute favourites are Conker and Mineral Earth. Taupe is also really pretty and Nougat is great for highlighting the tear duct.

In terms of application, these are really nice shadows to use. They're highly pigmented, stay on for a long time and hardly crease at all. Plus, the sparkly shades sparkle really well!

All in all, this is a great buy. It's cheap, high quality and looks really pretty too. I would highly recommend this to everyone!

Until next time,

Lauren x

Album review: Jessie J - Alive

She may not have her trademark hairstyle anymore, but Jessie J is churning out the hits just like before. Alive is the second album performed and written by Jessie, charting at number 3 in the UK's official album chart on entry.

Being a pop loving girl myself, my favourite tracks on this album are undoubtably the fast ones. It's My Party and Wild (ft. Big Sean and Dizzee Rascal) stand out to me and it looks like the record label agrees, as these are the first two singles to come from the album. Sexy Lady is also a very strong song with a great beat. It entered the chart last week (5/10/13) at number 22 despite not officially being released as a single. I can see Gold being released as a single in the near future as it is a great song to sing-a-long with.

In contrast to the strong sounds of the previously mentioned tracks, I Miss Her is a very beautiful song. The lyrics are very touching and Jessie performs it flawlessly. Following the contrast route, Excuse My Rude (ft. Becky G) has a really dirty beat but is quite repetitive which makes it difficult to listen to too many times.

If you were a fan of Who You Are, you will enjoy this record. With her classic sound still very much there and her distinctive voice, along with the large variety of tracks, this album is very listenable.

Until next time,

Movie review: White House Down

The weather is getting colder. The nights are getting darker. Winter is coming. Which only means one thing for me - watching more movies! And with an 18 screen cinema only a ten minute walk from my front door, expect a lot more of these reviews!

I recently went to see Roland Emmerich's new film, White House Down.  He is known for such films as Independence Day and 2012, which follow in similar vain to this film.

Official trailer - Sony Pictures

White House Down follows the destruction of the White House in Walker's (James Wood) revenge against his son being killed in the Middle East during the war. When President Sawyer's (Jamie Foxx) life is in danger only, police officer turned wannabe Secret Service Agent, John Cale (Channing Tatum) is around to help him. Cale must save the President and his daughter while preventing World War III, all before the White House is completely destroyed.

Official Theatrical Poster

This high paced action adventure doesn't disappoint. Tatum fits into this role effortlessly and Foxx brings moments of hilarity to serious situations which lifts the film out of becoming too dark.

Overall, this film has it all. A gripping storyline, great actors (great looking as well **cough** Channing Tatum **cough**) and outstanding production quality. The whole film seems entirely realistic which, for me, makes it all the better.

I would definitely recommend this movie, whether you like action movies or not, I'm sure you'll enjoy this film.

Until next time,

Lauren x

Welcome!

Well first things first, welcome to my blog - my little bit of the internet! I'd like to invite you along my journey into the unknown world of blogging (unknown for me anyway!) Follow my music and entertainment findings, along with some beauty, fashion and life posts thrown in there for good measure.

Now, down to the more formal stuff.

My name is Lauren Robertson and I am 18 years old, currently studying Media at Glasgow Caledonian University. I was born in Perth, Western Australia and moved to the North East of Scotland when I was almost seven years old.

Aww wasn't I cute? ....I wonder what happened!

Butter wouldn't melt....

I've turned into such a poser!

I have a little sister, Rachel and a chocolate labrador, Meg, along with my parents who are now separated. Although the shock of my parents split shook me hard, I am now definitely back on my feet and stronger than before. I am determined to do well for myself and with my high school exams under my belt, I am ready to take on the next stage of my life - getting a degree to get a job.

Do you see the resemblance?

Isn't she just gorgeous!?

Which brings me onto this blog! After starting up my YouTube channel this summer and really enjoying it, I have decided to dip my toes into the blogging world. With a summer away from studying, I need to practice my writing skills if I'm ever going to pass any essays this year!

So hopefully I haven't bored you too much and that we can chat and hang out in the comments as we carry on this crazy journey together!

Until next time,

Lauren x
